Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Pink eye is common but often misdiagnosed and mistreated — and the right treatment depends entirely on the cause. There are three main types:
Bacterial
caused by a bacterial infection, with thick discharge, a gritty sensation, and crusting of the eyelids. Often treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointment.
Viral
spread by viruses and often accompanying a cold; causes watery discharge and light sensitivity. Usually resolves on its own with supportive care.
Allergic
triggered by allergens such as pollen, pet dander, or dust; causes itching, redness, swelling, and watery discharge. Managed by avoiding triggers and using antihistamine drops.
