Use Your Vision Benefits
Most extended health benefit plans include some form of vision care coverage — but many patients are unsure exactly what they are entitled to or how to use it. Vision care coverage typically means one full comprehensive eye exam every one or two years, plus an allowance toward prescription eyewear or contact lenses. We work directly with your insurer on your behalf, so there is no need to submit claims yourself or pay out of pocket for covered services.
What Your Vision Plan Typically Covers
Coverage varies by plan, but most employer-sponsored group benefit plans in Canada include some combination of the following. Bring your insurance card and our team will confirm your exact entitlements before anything is finalized.
Comprehensive Eye Exams
Most plans cover one full comprehensive eye exam every one to two years for adults. In Ontario, OHIP also covers annual exams for children under 20 and adults 65 and over, as well as patients with certain medical conditions. Both OHIP and private coverage are accepted.
Eyeglass Frames & Lenses
Most plans include an annual or biennial allowance toward prescription frames and lenses — often extending to upgrades such as progressives, anti-reflective coatings, high-index lenses, blue-light filtering, and photochromic (Transitions®) lenses.
Contact Lenses & Fitting Fees
Many plans include a contact lens allowance and also cover the fitting fee — a benefit patients frequently forget to claim. We apply both automatically where your plan allows.
Specialty Services
Some extended health plans offer coverage for services such as dry eye treatment. Ask us about your plan's coverage when you book — we will confirm what applies before your visit.
